It did, trust Peter. You can test it by creating a shell for your host
user and trying to access a guest file - this will not work, as the
above directory (i.e. /var/lib/vservers) is no more readable to any
other user than root.

He surely did not, no. That command would destroy your guests by
making everything unaccessible.
