It seems something is missing, broken....:$
for unknown reasons (read bug) the debian tools
set a barrier on /, which instantly breaks all
kinds of stuff, use
vattribute --~barrier /
to remvoe it after system bootup, or update to
newer tools (or use the mainline tools for now)
vattribute --~barrier /
invalid option `~barrier'.
setattr
works fine now.
