You ask a good question. I ran into this problem myself. This was my solution:
I found that if you insert your handwritten code towards the beginning of the
script, just after the line: "init $argc $argv" that your code won't get
deleted. A trick I use is to make this code a procedure and then I can call
the procedure with a command button. Don't forget if you use variables from
outside the procedure in the procedure to use the global statement.
