I take it you mean 1.52 not 1.22 :-)
Use the packer manager for this (second icon from the right in the main
toolbar).
There are excellent books about how to use the packer and the gridder,
like "Effective Programming in Tcl/Tk", they show graphically how the
layout process works.
Also, in the vTcl distribution, the demo folder contains a "combo.tcl"
example, that shows all the three managers and how they behave when
resizing.
