When you have a frame that includes something that is expanded and fills
the entire frame, you cannot click inside that frame to place something.
I figured that was what the shift-click on the toolbar was all about. You first
select the frame (by either parent selection or widget tree - since there is
no way to select the frame as it is filled) then you shift click on something, say
a button in the toolbar. It will then insert the button into the frame.

But for the menu items of insert-compound, there is no way to insert them
into the frame in one motion. AFter you select the menu command it waits for
a click to know where to put the compound. Try it. It's much too difficult
to explain, as you can see by my stumbling, bumbling, try at explaining it :)
