What flavor of Linux are you running? They may have placed the font directory in a different place then other versions.
Just some thoughts.

Greetings,
I started this morning playing with this aplicattion (vtcl 1.6 on a linux machine). I have some problems but one is the "big problem" I insert a LabelEntry Bwidget and define a new font for the entry part. Then I save and quit When I Open this project the font is no more definned and an error "font "" does not exists" is displayed. I found the part of the code where my images are definned but I couldm't find this part for the fonts.

I have attempted many ways to reproduce the issue you have stated and I have not been able to. Which version of Linux and Tcl/Tk are you using?
