 I've tracked it down to what appears to be inconsistencies in
 the way tk4.x and tk8.x set geometries for toplevel windows. The short
 fix is that I've re-commented out code that allows manual entry
 of toplevel geometries in the geometry editor.

 tk4.x and tk.x will both return strings like this:

% wm geometry .
200x200+-130+118

 but tk8.x will not accept this as valid geometry when setting whereas
 tk4.x will. I guess I'll report this to Sun.
