Howard Zinn's Marx is back in Burlington! On Saturday, January 29th, at 7:00 pm, the University of Vermont's English Department will be sponsoring a performance of the play Marx in Soho by Howard Zinn at the Music Recital Hall on the Redstone Campus (South Prospect Street). This special performance is in honor of Will Miller, Vermont's widely respected long time activist, and will launch a fund drive for the Will Miller Social Justice Lecture Series. The premise of the play is simple: what if Karl Marx were allowed to come back and see the world today? What would he say? Howard Zinn answers this question with a hilarious one-man play that has been greeted by sell-out crowds and rave reviews across the country since 1999. "engaging and charismatic... You wouldn't imagine that social criticism could make for lively theater, but Zinn's text and Jones's acting deftly blended the political with the personal." --The Washington Post "A comic masterstroke... Brian Jones is lovely." --The Capital Times "Jones is versatile and captivating and Zinn writes with insight and humor." --Backstage West Howard Zinn is a progressive historian, best known for his book, A People's History of the United States. This book is used today on many college campuses and is responsible for a new approach to history from the point of view of people who have been oppressed. Brian Jones has toured across the country as Marx in Zinn's play since 1999. He recently lent his voice to the audio recording of Noam Chomsky's new book, Hegemony or Survival, and to several staged readings from Howard Zinn's newest book, Voices of a People's History of the United States.
