I thought some of you might like to know that City Market in Burlington is selling Holy Land Olive Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Product of Palestine.  There is a card attached to each bottle explaining why "buying this olive oil is important".  In part it reads:

Due to increased restrictions on the mobility of people, goods and services in the past four years, Palestinians are facing severe losses in production, employment and income.  Many have lost jobs in Israel, while others can no longer access workplaces in neighboring cities within the West Bank as a result of checkpoints, road closures and curfews.  With unemployment currently standing at 55%, olive oil has become the only annual source of income for many families.

Holy Land Olive Oil is committed to the following principles:

To pay fair price with a guaranteed minimum (above prevailing market prices), ensuring that Palestinian farmers get a fair return for their labors even in a low-yield season.

To develop long-term trade partnerships based on trust and respect.

To buy directly from farmers, farmer coops, or other not-for-profit organizations so the benefits of trade go to the farmers and their communities.

To encourage ecologically sustainable farming practices such as organic agriculture, which build a long term economic base for farmers while protecting community health and the environment.

This is a quality organically produced product. Though a little pricey at $14.99 / 750 ML, it is tasty, and buying it seems like a great way to support the farmers in Palestine while also enjoying the fruits of their labor.
