Title:

While in Ann Arbor in October, 2004 to talk about her trips to Palestine, DYR Board member Hedy Epstein participated in the weekly synagogue vigil organized by Henry Herskovitz.  She did so in spite of the protest of local rabbis and the Jewish Federation, who tried to stop her from participating.

The new minister of the church where she was to speak was also contacted and asked not allow her to speak there.  Initially he acceded, but then, not only did he allow Hedy to speak, but he was actually present during her presentation.  Yes, they are scared of folks like Henry and Hedy who tell the truth.

Right now Hedy Epstein is in the midst of a similar situation.  She and two others have been invited to participate this weekend in a panel, entitled "Jews of Conscience," which is part of a larger conference - "Justice & Mercy:  A Conference on Peacemaking in a World of Many Faiths," at Marquette University in Milwaukee.  The two other panelists are a convert to Judaism, who has been to
Palestine with ISM, and a Jewish academic, who was among the first to enter Jenin after the 2002 massacre.

Certain Marquette professors and some in the local Jewish community are upset about what Hedy and the other two might say.  The university organizers even asked that they send information about what they are going to say in advance.  Hedy’s panel is the only one required to do that.  There was a meeting yesterday between the organizers, three of the Marquette professors, and a member of the Jewish community to calm their ruffled feathers.

Hedy feels sure that the three can handle any onslaught by those "Jews who lack in conscience."

You may contact Hedy at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or any of the other distinguished board members of Deir Yassin Remembered.  It is through your support, and particularly your financial support, that our struggle can continue.
