*************ROAD TRIP FOR RELIEF TO NEW ORLEANS*****************************
Join members of UVM Students Against War and the International Socialist Organization in the "Roadtrip for Relief" to New Orleans. Anyone that followed the sluggish and grossly inadequate "relief" effort conducted by the federal government in wake of Hurricane Katrina undoubtedly knows that the people of the gulf, particularly the poor of New Orleans, were essentially abandoned. In the past two months things have not gotten better, the 9th ward, the poorest and most adversely effected section of New Orleans, remains in the same devastated state that it did immediately following the disaster. To put it clearly FEMA has done nothing to help this predominantly black and poor neighborhood of New Orleans, and in fact it looks more and more like they are simply going to tear the entire place down. The people of the gulf desperately need help in trying to rebuild their communities and FEMA simply isn't doing anything about it. We will be driving to the Common Ground Collective (http://www.commongroundrelief.org/roadtrip/) in New Orleans to help with clean-up, construction, distribution, and anything else that needs to be done. We're looking for any and all kinds of donations. If you have time, consider coming down with us for the week. The "Common Ground Collective" tells us that more than anything they need feet on the ground to help the community rebuild. If you have food, cleaning supplies, clothes, then please contact John McDonald so that we can pick them up and bring them down to New Orleans. If you can donate money, in any amount, to help us pay for gas and lodging to get down to New Orleans, that would also be helpful. Here is a link to the "Wish List" of supplies needed: http://www.commongroundrelief.org/wish_list/ We've got transportation all squared away, it looks like we'll be driving a van down Saturday morning (11/19), stopping somewhere for Saturday night, and arriving in New Orleans Sunday evening. We'll be spending the week helping out, probably on the 9th ward project, and we'll probably depart Saturday morning (the 26th). If anyone is interested in contributing or coming along, please get in touch with John McDonald at 845-702-4939 or [EMAIL PROTECTED] -In Solidarity John UVM Students Against War Ashley Smith [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------ Yahoo!
