Hello vtkEdgeTeam,
I'm experimenting with vtkEdge but somehow I'm not able to reproduce the
same speed as can be seen in VolView 3.0.
I've made sure to link against release libs of vtkEdge. The pipeline is
quite similar to the GPUVolumeRendering example.
If I use identical transfer maps (color/opacity) and shading parameters I
can produce the same output as VolView. However interacting with the volume
is extremely slow.
I'm aware of SetInteractiveUpdateRate and SetDesiredUpdateRate this will
help with interaction, but then the volume looks like softwarerendering when
interacting (a blurred pixelbox).
Another annoying behavior is, that once you try to start interacting, it
takes like 1-2seconds before it starts to rotate. This can be seen in
volview too but the lag is significantly smaller.
The question is, how to achieve the same speed as in volview? I could
understand that you made some changes for this open source beta which are
not present if one buys the renderer (for commercial purposes).
But we need to make sure that the performance improvement can be achieved.
The test pc is:
Intel Q6600 (quad)
4GB Ram
Geforce 8800GTX
TestVolume: PHENIX Dataset from Osirix Homepage (360slices)
VolView:
- Fullscreen on 20" (1280x1024): interactive (10-15fps), almost
identical to final rendering, final rendering after about 0.5sec
Our TestPipeline:
- Fullscreen on 20" (1280x1024): interactive (3-5fps), totally
blurred image, 2-3 seconds to final rendering
I'd be glad to get some hints how to get better results.
Regards,
Michael
