Preston Carman created VXQUERY-95:
-------------------------------------

Summary: Added Support for Collection to Read Compressed Files
                 Key: VXQUERY-95
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/VXQUERY-95
             Project: VXQuery
          Issue Type: New Feature
            Reporter: Preston Carman
            Assignee: Preston Carman

XML can be compressed to improve storage. In a disk constrained environment,
storing the XML file in a compressed format would assist in lowering the
storage needs. Other benefits may exists.

The collection function could support reading .xml and .xml.gz files. The .gz
would be compressed using standard methods and then uncompressed during query
execution. Since compression would only be evaluated upon reading the files,
the rest of the query would not be affected.
