I'm a product nut, so my curiosity was perked by
the stuck ferrule discussion. Not long ago I called Sage to find out, for
sure, what is the correct procedure for loosening stuck ferrules, and find out
why they do get stuck. My info was incorrect. Graphite is somewhat
sensitive to temperature change..not alot, but enough to cause the
problem. When you fit the furrule tight, on say a cold morning, and then
it gets warm in the afternoon, the slight expansion change causes the
problem. They said to apply cold compress and often this works, or, at
times, the heat from a hair dryer will work.?? The material change helps
to free it, I guess. Also, peraphine (sp?) wax is good to use on
ferrules. One afternoon, last fall, there was a guy with a double hander
that had a stuck ferrule and no two guys could get it apart. We tried for
the longest time. He was driving a small car and I have no idea how he
managed to get it home. Jere
