Leland,
Though I've only taken one blackmouth off the beach at Lincoln Park, I'd
like to suggest that there's another time of year when they are available
(in a relative sense). I took a 9 1/2 pounder in March a couple of years
ago, but only after hearing about several being hooked in the previous week.
Although I was looking for resident coho at the time, because of the reports
I chose to use a baitfish pattern instead of the Ferguson Green and Silver
that I would have been more likely to have been using at that time. If I
could do that on a regular basis, I think I'd be willing to give up
steelhead fishing. Three straight-out runs that went into the backing and
another four or five runs up and down the beach. Backing burns on the
fingers and all the rest. An experience I'll always remember.
