I am the proud owner of 3 Marryat reels in different sizes. One is a George
Gerke Marryat. They were American made reels. George is quite a character and
of Gerke's Gink fame. I likewise had one get some sand in it and freeze up
while fishing in Alaska. They replaced the reel with no hazzle, but didn't
make my Alaska trip any better. My feeling on reel drags. If the setting will
stay light and smooth on a reel that is all I ask as the quickest change in
reel drag while playing a fish is from YOU the angler. You can change the
angle of your rod, while playing a fish, in a heartbeat and go from a light to
heavy drag setting..the best that you can ask for. I am visiting in Ohio and
fishing off the deck of my brother's charter boat. It is a great casting
platform. I have been getting a bead eyed rabbit leach down in 10-15 ft of
water using a Teeny 200 grain (24ft of sink) and have not caught a smallmouth
bass yet but did manage to tug-of-war with a sheephead. We will try again in
Canadian waters off of Pelee Island and give evening fishing a try. Waters are
clear and sunny days put fish down deep. There are incredible Hex hatches back
here. They get so thick on the roadways that cars slide and cause wrecks.
They bring out the snow plows and scrape them up. Jere
