I'm not sure I agree with your statement that, "the Okuma isn't nearly as
tough or durable as the Cimarron." I think the Cimarron is a better reel
and has a better finish but unless you plan on running over the Okuma with a
truck it should last for many years. I've only had one reel give out on me
in 30 some years of fly fishing.

I think the Cimarron is a good value in high end reels. Like high end rods
I think most high end reels are over priced. For me either reel is going to
get scuffed with use and that has no bearing on my purchase. I place 95%
priority on the performance of my gear and 5% on appearance. Others may
have different priorities.

Justin, the Okuma is a fine performing reel, particularly at the prices it's
being sold. It is not in the same class as the Cimarron. Both reels have
fine performing drags; the Okuma isn't nearly as tough or durable as the
Cimarron, and the Okuma finish isn't even close to being in the same company
as the Cimarron. I have them both . . .

Subject: Okuma Sierra Reels and St. Croix rods

>I took my friend to Kauffman's today to look at reels. They had the
Pflueger at low end then from there they jumped right to the ross Cimmaron.
So the cost range was from $39.00 to $150.00 (exact prices i can't recall).
Anyway, I asked about the Okuma Sierra and they said no way. I wanted to
check one out because I know many of you online have said good things about
the reels. A few Questions:
>
>Can these reels stand up to Steelhead and Coho Salmon? Is it an actual
Disk Drag?
>Why are they so inexpensive?
>
>I also remember someone online said they could get them for $28.00 Can you
pass on that price to the rest of us? If so I'll Buy a few from you (3-5)

>I also read an something from a custom rod Builder. His opinion is that
St. Croix will be right up there with sage or even surpass them in the near
future. I think I'm gonna have one made up and see what all the fuss is.
All I've heard is great things about St. Croix. The website to the guy who
makes them is.. www.performanceflyrods.com

end St. Croix and been able to tell the difference?
