You can cut of the back of your flyline, but....you ruin that end of your 
double taper.  If you don't care and don't think you will ever reverse it, 
fine.  Otherwise, the best option is to buy a wt. forward taper; they take up 
much less space on the spool.  Some companies, like SA, make lines that are 
shorter, 82ft, as apposed to Cortland lines that are often 90 ft.  The 
difference would not give you enough room anyway.  Most reel descriptions over-
estimate the amt. of backing they will take.  But it seems a stretch if they 
said 75 yds for a DT and it won't take any!  Jere
