I've been out there fishing for bottomfish in a 12-14 foot boats and sometimes that 
feels too small because of the water. 

You can fish bottomfish close to shore, but I'm not sure about silvers.  I would think 
you'd need to be further out... say at least 1/2 mile or further.. probably further 
than that.

Bottom fish are close to shore.  Most of my fishing there was within 1/4 mile of shore 
around rocks close to the surface.
