I had to really think about what six patterns I use most for trout and I came up with 
the following list (not in any particular order), but that includes both lake and 
river selections.  Then I looked in my 15 fly boxes and discovered I have about 200 
different patterns :-) 

1.  Chronomid 
2.  Damsel nymph
3.  Dry damsel
4.  Woolly bugger (modified)
5.  Adams
6.  Elk hair caddis
