I use "Goop" myself on similar fles if not up to doing the epoxy thing.
As for those mylar strips, it seems like I found my last sheets in
Spokane marketed by Leur Jensen, possibly Wapsi. Likely got it at the
White Elephant there. (they do have a website - just not sure what the
www. is.) Anyway, it is on the market in the NW as lots of folks use it
to dress up spinner blades, spoons, etc.

Additionally, depending on the size of fly you are tying, the "Church
Window" feathers from Pheasant, or the metallic blue, similar shaped,
feathers from peacock, with a stick 3-D eye and then coated makes an
awesome head complete with gill line on a fly.
