Bill,
I can't find my handy dandy reference right now, but early October sounds
about right. Let's hope that the weather doesn't do us in. As I recall,
the year when you were shooting the footage for Pete and Les' video, it
began to rain that day (September 17th) and the river was OUT until early
November. On the subject of dries for cutthroat, I think I've seen more
craneflies on the Stilly this year than ever before, and that was a pattern
that Dan Lemaich used to swear by. If you can find an English fly pattern
book they'll usually have several of them, they call them "Daddy Long Legs"
or just "Daddies". The last time I was on the river I saw several October
caddis and in some years, the Stilly can have enormous hatches of them.
Later on, in October and even into November (if the river doesn't blow out)
I've found them concentrating really hard on size 18 and 20 blue winged
olives. Now that, is a blast!
Preston
