Bucktailing is a technique normally used in saltwater for coho that involves
trolling a baitfish pattern behind a fast-moving boat. The name comes from
the baitfish patterns used, even though, traditionally, most of them were
tied with polar bear hair and not bucktail. In BC it it has become even
more specialized, devolved a bit from most fly fishing methods, they use
casting rods and reels and monofilament line. I gather that the method used
in Idaho goes a step further, with the use of side planers and even
downriggers.
