Also, check out http://www.wa.gov/wdfw/do/oct02/oct0202a.htm   The article there claims that the state is trying to seek approval to open the fishery on the Methow but until they can get Federal approval it is closed.

Here's a message a buddy of mine who is from Carleton (up on the Methow River) sent to me this morning.
 
 
 
 
 

"Extra, Extra, hear all about it" ,  Steelhead season on the Methow river HAS NOT been approved as of this date.  If you know folks who plan to fish for whitefish up there, be aware of the hook size restriction (from the State Regs "One single hook 3/16" or smaller measured point to shank (size #14) may be used").  Don't be one of those knuckleheads "fishing for whitefish" while casting an 8 weight with an egg-sucking leech or marabou fly attached to the end.  Big ticket, baby, and it's against the law.
 
Pass the word NO STEELHEAD SEASON on the Methow River.
