Title: RE: Methow just opened, today!/Report/Philisophical qu
call me a "snotty" flyfisher if you will, but I have seen a lot of examples of gear fisherman dragging fish up on the bank & then kicking 'em back in the water if they can't keep 'em.  I have seen some examples of folks with fly rods do the same thing; however it seems in my unscientific sample that fly fishers seem to handle the c&r fish with much care than gear guys.- bill hamilton

I think you misunderstand what I wrote.

I was addressing an inherent problem I see with kill or harvesting in the same waters with mandated wild release. Many fishers, in their quest for fish to keep end up mistreating those they must release.

Other than that I have no issue.

Imagining is all that you can do.  Personally, I like to imagine the best in other anglers.  It makes fly fishing a lot less snotty.  Just because others use different methods for catching fish and plan on taking something home (which is perfectly legal) doesn't make them any less a sportsman or steward of the natural resource.

There are those with the opinion that anyone involved in a blood sport, (of which c&r fly fishing classifies) must be slovenly and not give a crap about the resource they are molesting for there own pleasure.  Odd thought, worm chuckers and fly fishers being lumped together, or is it?

A sportsman is a sportsman irrelevant of the method used as long as the rules are followed and the spirit maintained.

For example, a few weeks ago when I was in Sekiu, I overheard fisherman come in to the docks complaining about the number of wild fish they caught and "had" to throw back. They were pissed about not getting any hatchery fish to kill for their limit. I can only imagine the lack of care taken in releasing the wild coho.

Keep your eyes and ears open on the Methow fellas, it's gonna happen there.

Leland.
