Location: Picnic Point Tide: Incoming Wind: NNW 10 knots variable falling to 5 knots I had planned on going to Doc’s today, but
slept through my alarm clock and ended up at Picnic Point instead. The tide was low when I arrived and the
wind just strong enough that I didn’t bother trying to cast into it. I started at the top of the beach and
standing in knee deep water, cast parallel to the shore with the wind at my
back. My initial fly was a chartreuse
clouser tied with super hair. When I reached the mouth of the creek, I
saw a fish jump that looked to be around 16”, subsequent casts to it didn’t
turn up anything. Soon after I switched to a small olive clouser. I wandered down past the park boundary
and fished around the old dock pilings for a while, and when I had returned the
tide had began to move quite a bit, and the wind dropped to about 5 knots
variable. As I stood at the top of the beach, two seals floated
by and watched me fish as I watched them fish, they floated with the tide past
the beach and I didn’t see them again. I stuck around for a while to watch the
sunset, but never ended up touching a fish. It was a good way to kill a half a day,
even if I didn’t catch anything, always nice to get some fresh air and
taste a bit of salt. Ryan
