James,
I too have fished the Lenice/Merry/Bobby/Nunally chain for years, and I've only managed two browns myself. I too always hear about others catching browns, and my fishing partners always seem to catch them. Wondered about that myself.
Same goes for Dry Falls, where I've only caught one brown...

I too fished Bobby last Saturday. From about 9 to 10:30 I fished marabou
leeches, Glen's Leech, and seal buggers along the shallows of the western end
of the lake as I moved east. Landed 4 rainbows, with three of them coming to
Glen's Leech in brown, size 10. My luck improved when I switched from 2 ft.
pull and pause to 4" pull and pause (clear intermediate line).
Around 10:30 or 11 started bobber fishing and hooked 2 or 3 on bloodworm.
Later landed 19" bow on a raccoon in size 16. Fish were rising in about 2'
of water along a sharp dropoff. I may have moved in a little too close to
the shallows, as action got slower and slower despite good conditions for
chironomid activity.
Around 1:00 I hooked a couple more fish on size 18 chiro pupae dropped off a
dry. These fish were also in 2' of water.
As the day progressed, I continued to have moderate success alternating
between chironomid and leech fishing. In the shallows toward the east end of
the lake, moss was coming off the bottom and floating to the top. I fished a
bloodworm in tandem with diawl bach casting into the current and letting the
fly drift back toward me. The current in there is a real factor, I believe.
Two small fish slammed the diawl bach. One bigger fish took the bloodworm.
So, I think I must have landed about 12 fish in 8 hours, although I always
seem to lose count.
Oddly, I have only caught two brown trout in the Nunnally/Merry/Lenice chain.
Yet, each time I go, I hear someone talking about catching browns. Am I
doing something wrong? Are there more browns in Lenice, as I have heard?
The mysteries of fish!!!!
What a beautiful area!
