I like to net large fish with my soft c&r net then tail them with the net,
hand on the outside. Invert the net, and voila, it's like one of those
tailing gloves you can buy. The nice thing about this technique is that I'm
not scrappin' for some glove or other piece of equipment besides my net, the
fish never comes out of the water, and the fish's sensitive slime coating
isn't exposed to the acidic sweat secreted from the hands (especially my
hands!)

Subject: Releasing Rocky Ford Fish

With the discussion of releasing fish, I'd be interesed in folks
methods for ensuring that the fish is really ready to go. Like Les, I've
experienced fish at rocky f. where you are reviving them, they shoot out
of your hands, but then either start to drift funny, or dive into the
bottom of the mud, and you have to try and get a hold of them again and
revive them. It seems like the first step is to try and fight the fish
faster to decrease the level of exhaustion and lactic acid build up.
What else do folks do? Nets? Open the mouth?

Mark
