Thanks Leland! I was thinking of heading up there tomorrow
with my sled. With the drop in temp I don't think I will now though. I don't
much like towing the boat in the snow and I have 1/2" at my house right
now.

Good question. I was given this fly sometime last year. It is a steelhead fly but in the water it slims down and looks like a small fish. It is red violet and flourescent red with about six strands of flashabou. I am drying it out and will post a better description. I used a tan/white clouser on the single-hander and caught my three smallest fish. I'm certain this fly as well as the distance and placement of the fly in the steelhead water contributed to my success.
In the last few days, I have heard of dollies being caught on steelhead flies of black, violet, orange, red and now mine. It may not be as important as one might think.

Today, three of us fished the Skagit. For the day, we caught 11
dollies (still like the sound of dolly rather than bull). Brian
Lencho caught one dollie and missed a few more. John Farrar caught a
dollie, missed a few and landed a hatchery steelhead of 6-8 pounds. I
managed to land 9 dollies and cracker a few others. I caught three on
my 6wt single-hander and the rest on my two-hander and the biggest
dollie was bigger than Farrar's steelhead! I'll have to revise my
statement I made on another forum. . . Steelhead are the dollie
bycatch. The dollies are very big and are laying in the steelhead
water and not necessarily in the slow stuff. And unlike the
steelhead, they are feeding.
If I were you Tom, I'd take advantage of some outrageous dollie
fishing in the Skagit.
