I had just the opposite problem with my old #7 wt 2 piece Talon rod it froze up and I could not get it apart after a days fishing in the salt and try tried everything guys told me to do. Finally a friend and I each took a section and pulled and twisted and got the job done.
Also it not just spey rods as a bunch of us were chum fishing last November in the salt and one of the fellows broke a brand new Sage 9' ft Xi2 #8 wt because of a loose ferrule.
