I'm getting ready to replace my VERY old hand-me-down trolling motor that I use on my 8' Fishcat pontoon boat. It's about 25+years old (Shakespear) and I have NO idea how much thrust it's rated for. As old as it is, I'm sure it's probably putting out about 50% of its original rated thrust anyway.
What I'm inquiring about is what the board's recommendations would be for the appropriate size for puttering about on lakes and ponds here in Washington (not planning on pulling any skiers). I don't want to be throwing rooster-tails when I troll, but would like to have enough reserve power to get outa Dodge when the wind or weather turns nasty. I searched through the archives, but couldn't find a thread on this subject. I've been looking at a Minn-Kota Endura 30 which has 30lbs of thrust, and 5 forward speeds and 3 reverse speeds. I can pick one up for around $100 which is my budget. Thoughts? Sean
