Speaking of Costco, and I am one of the original members there, and still spend a ton of money each year, they have an interesting way of going about business. I am just relaying what I was told by a fellow who makes an absolutely super pontoon boat in South Seattle. He said that years ago, Costco approached him about making up several thousand of his pontoon boats to sell in their stores. Problem was, they would advance no money up front for materials, he would have to foot the whole bill, and if he missed the deadline by even one day, they would not take any of his boats. Since he is a pretty small businessman, he decided not to take the chance. I guess this is the way Costco does business. I have even stopped buying gas at Costco after several auto dealers (used to work in the auto industry), and a couple of boat dealers told be one of the biggest problems with fouled plugs is cheap gas from places like Costco, Safeway, Winco (Eastern WA). Bottom line, is I think you get what you pay for.

I was at a certain no-name fly shop the same afternoon and noticed how
friendly and informative the person who was working there. Not only did they
take the time to answer my questions, but provided maps and suggestions for
the right fly selection. Then the guy actually showed me the differences between
pontoon boats and what makes certain brands more preferable and safe because
of their construction, quality materials and ability to handle different classes
of rivers. He even showed me an inflatable device that would save my life if I
happened to be put into an unwanted situation on the river.
It's interesting how fly shops can keep in business with the competition of the
box stores.

Quoting "Rex S. Takasugi" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

I was at the Tukwila Costco this afternoon and noticed that they
have another pontoon boat there for sale, a Trout Unlimited "Madison" 7'
pontoon boat for $199.99. It looked like a good boat for the money and I
almost talked myself into buying one for the wife for lake fishing. It is
supposed to have a 350 pound capacity (no reflection on my wife). The oars
are 6' in length. Just thought some of you might be interested after our
previous discussion about trolling motors and pontoon boats at Costco. It's
interesting how the prices for these low-end pontoon boats keep dropping...

Tight lines!
