It seems to me that saving a couple hundred bucks that might ruin a couple thousand dollar trip is false economy. Especially considering that you got 10 years of life out of the last pair! Splurge and get yourself a new pair and then fix these for a backup pair.

the waders are breathable.
the damage is tear of about one inch. so, they would need a patch. but, I might be holding up false hope of avoiding having to buy new waders. since I hit Alaska in two weeks, I should just bite the bullet and not repair them but replace them.
