If you can fit your rods in your luggage, do it. I've traveled a lot and the
main problem is that airlines tend to lose (for a while) small things like
rod carriers. I'm more concerned with that than getting them stolen.
Airlines seem to have relaxed a bit about carrying them on, but it's still a
matter of what the screener thinks and you may be forced to check them
(losing your place in the line) by one screener and not another.
Www.magellans.com is now selling new TSA approved luggage locks. They are
coded so TSA can open them. You can probably find them at travel stores
also.
