I totally agree Matthew. Sometimes I think, despite a passionate and dedicated following, Apple can be rotten to the core. It's difficult enough (certainly for the average user) to afford an Apple machine in the face of cheaper and faster competition. As I've said before, it would be nice for Apple to recognise its supporters.....

Can you imagine the following line stated as "...Apple is going to let owners of the non-combo drive Powerbook G4 550 and 667s upgrade to a combo drive for FREE. All non-combo drives will be donated to schools etc ............" ?

I don't think so.

I wonder how long it will be before Apple come out with a iwalllet....wallets designed in the fashion of ibooks so that you can be recognised as a Mac user...handing over yet more money for an upgrade!

Despite my bitch, I love my machine.....and that's part of the problem (though not for Apple)!!!

Regards to all and have a great break if you get one and stay safe. Thanks for all the advice etc provided by WAMUG this year.

Possibly some good news: Apple is going to let owners of the

for $US299. (Therein lies the bad news - it'll cost around
$AUST600!) This has only been announced in the US (as of Jan 14th
2002) see:
<http://www.info.apple.com/usen/powerbook/upgrade_faq.html>

but hopefully it'll make it's way over to Australia too.

The only problem is deciding whether that $600 is better spent on an
external Firewire burner!!

For $600 bucks, I know where Apple can put their Combo drive :P

I would use that cash to buy myself either LOTS more RAM and an external
Firewire burner.
