It appears curious that Sony would only take measures against the Mac
platform when it's highly cited that the MS platform is more widely used.
Anyone have any follow up info on this (I frequently listen to CD's in my
iMac whilst surfing/programming/Quaking)?

No, it's probably just accidental that Sony's anti-piracy measures cause the iMac to fall over. It's primarily designed to prevent copying on PC's. Of course it only has to work on a handful of machines to make the copy protection worthless.

Enterprising people might just get out their marker pens and disable the anti-piracy measures, at least until the police come and arrest them for having marker pens

Oh, and if they've got copy-protection on them, they're technically not CD's as they don't conform to the CD standard.

There are already a number of lawsuits in the US against music manufacturers using such copy protection techniques.
