Dear WAMUGgers Sitting watching the Aussies ducking for cover through the windows, and playing with my little iBook, I stumbled on this little gem on <http://lowendmac.com/lite/02/1231.html>.
The Bernina Artista 200 is a real sewing machine running Windows (CE). Have a look at it on <http://lowendmac.com/lite/02/1231.html>. I suspect Steve might be working on an OS X version now, just in time for MacWorld Expo this week. It may well have a detachable video iPod on which you can store 2000 songs, 2000 videos and 2000 embroidery patterns, or any combination of these. A particularly nice feature might be its ability to embroider scenes from your favourite iMovie, and even brilliant displays from the special iSew Visualiser, enabled by your favourite music genre in iTunes. So If you're feeling a little bored sitting up waiting for the Keynote speech to begin on QuickTime broadband, with the rest of the WAMUG mob, perhaps you should take your sewing machine, spinning wheel or loom along with you! In answer to my wife Elaine's question, there is no Australian price listed, but one website I visited announced it was soon to arrive in Oz and listed the previous model (180E) at $6590; so I suggest you reserve $7500 as a starting price! Pick the difference. Here are 2 FAQs for the machine. One is genuine and one has been slightly modified by the folk at 'low end mac': 1 When I am embroidering I often get an out of memory error message. What an I doing wrong (besides trying to sew using a machine run by Windows?) Have you centered your needle in the Embroidery Settings section of Artista Set Up program? This is often a cause of out of memory errors on desktop Windows machines which cannot sew. You need to give your Artista 200E a reference point for the center of the hoop. Page 163 in your Artista Instruction Manual provides step-by-step directions for you to follow. Read the Friendly Manual. You will only need to set the reference position once unless you Reset to Factory in the Setup program or update the operating system on your Artista 200E. Updating the operating system happens every sixteen days and is automatic. Be sure not to misplace the reference position instructions. You might consider sewing them onto a shirt. Or maybe a pillowcase. 2 When I go into my artista Designer and try to write something to my Magic Box I get an error that says it is unable to access the converter box. Why doesn't it connect? Have you updated your Magic Box software? Updates for both the serial and USB Magic Box can be found on www.embroideryonline.com From the home page select Support Center and look in the Announcements box to find the update needed for your Magic Box. You will need to download the update software and, in the case of the USB Magic Box, the updated driver. An updated Magic Box User's Manual is also available for download. Remember to restart your computer after installing the update patch.
