The new Airport Base Stations are great value. Apple introduced Airport Extreme at MacWorld, which supports the 802.11g standard and is backward compatible with the old 802.11b standard. Airport Extreme runs at 54Mbps vs 11Mbps, but you need an 802.11g compatible card/device to achieve this speed. You can of course, still run old 802.11b 11Mbps devices through the new base stations, at 11Mbps.

The new base stations come in 2 varieties. For $399 you get a base station without a modem, which is perfect for people who just want to use it on a LAN, or if you have ADSL.

For $499 you get a base station with a modem, and which can also have an external antenna attached, which will increase your range. This model can also be dialed in to - meaning if you have it plugged into your ADSL, and you need to access the internet away from home, you can dial up your base station, and connect to your home network, including your ADSL link. Your own personal ISP service!

These base stations also have a USB port, allowing you to plug in your USB printer, and share it with others on your network!

More information is available at http://www.apple.com.au/airport

The new base stations will be available in the next couple of weeks, from your local AppleCentre or Authorised Apple Reseller.

Does anyone out there have an Airport Station that they would like to
sell? How much do you want for it?

If not, where can I find the cheapest prices in Perth on a newest one?
