i bought myself a liteon LDW 451S DVD+/-RW for $99 recently
it works fine in OSX for iDVD and toast.
(osX: it doesnt support disk burner (itunes) but it does in os9)

Hello, W AMUGgers,
The SuperDrive in my 1.42 Ghz dual processor Powermac G4 is dying -
it won't spin up properly and makes strange noises. It is a Pioneer
brand drive that came with the computer when I bought it 14 months ago.
The computer is 2 months out of warranty (didn't take out Apple care).
I had a look at the archives but couldn't find anything under
'superdrive' or 'Pioneer.' (Gee, I hate those bouncing and squirming
ads that come with Yahoo¡)
I would appreciate information and advice about my options. Can
these drives be repaired? Who repairs them?
