Possibly the ModemOnHold is always loaded anyway as part of the
internal modem support and is just told to do nothing if the option
isn't selected.
Howdy Shay,
the evidence of the sysem log says not. It shows that the MoH
service was begun loading only a few days ago. Me not having any OS
X geekness, the rest of the processes are opaque to me, so I have no
idea what process decided to load the MoH.
The change began before I installed 10.3.6 upgrade and didn't follow
any other installation, so I can't yet assume it's by design to have
the thing started at every session.
I might just play with hiding the MoH and see how the modem likes those apples.
My reading in a couple of fora tells me that MoH in OS X has been
having problems from the beginning of V92 in the USA and I suppose
those of us who prefer plain vanilla are getting the nuts and drips
anyway ;-)
thanks for the input and I've just used SuperDuper for a straight
clone. Wonderful UI and the job was a pleasure. I am working in
the clone to give it a good test. So far so very good.
