connecting to curtin network

My daughter has an ibook (my suggestion) and loves it. Runs quite 
happily on LAN at her house with other (windows) laptops and pcs. She 
was told she can' t connect to the wireless network in the library at 
Curtin because "they don't support macs" Is this true? If so, I 
obviously gave her the wrong advice about a notebook of choice!

 If not how does she connect to the network?  (step-by-step) She finds 
this a very great disadvantage in doing her study.
