Hi Folks
My first post to the list after lurking for a few months.
I have a 20" iMac, 1.25Ghz G4, 768MB RAM. OS 10.3.8.
Recently iPhoto (4.0.3) has slowed down on start up. It shows all the thumbnails quickly (approx 2500 photos - <3GB) but then the spinning rainbow wheel appears for 3 - 4 minutes before I can do anything else. I can only move the window out of the way and use other apps eg Mail etc while I am waiting. The only thing I have done recently, but can't see how it would affect things, is copy the iPhoto Library (using copy and paste from the folder on the Mac) to a Lacie 160GB external hard drive for back up. Any ideas? Does anyone else back up this way? Is there a better way to do it?

Hi Andrew,

If iPhoto becomes unstable or runs super slow, it may have a confused image database. To rebuild its database, hold down the Option and Shift keys while launching iPhoto. If the problem still exists, try rebuilding it again
until it’s fixed.

Ronni
