Following Rod's Tuesday Talking point...

For my needs (modest graphic design, photo manipulation, extensive
writing, on a G4/800 OSX3.8) the following are tried and true shareware
programs I couldn't do without:

DragThing: A superior launcher and desktop manager kept up to date by its
developer. Used it for years.
Snapz Pro X: The best capture program around. Used it for years.
Quicksilver: Very handy short-cut launcher. Used it since Jan.
GraphicConverter: Another indispensable tool kept up to date by its
developer. Used it for years.
Nisus Writer Express: Once again, the best word processor for Mac. Used
its predecessors for years.
Tex-Edit Plus: Dollar-for-dollar, the handiest editor; kept up to date by
its developer. Used it for years.

While I use many other shareware programs, none of them fall into the
can't-live-without category, including PowerMail, an excellent, but not
indispensable, email program.
