Hi Ray,
The Epson 4990 Photo scanner gets great reviews and seems to fit most
of your criteria. For its price (rrp $899) it has great specs, and
would be my choice if I was after a scanner and financially viable.
There is an a small article about it in the April Aussie Macworld, but
you can find other reviews on the net.
From experience, Epson was always more Mac-savvy than Canon and much
more likely to update the drivers for Tiger.
Cheers,
Mike

I plan to buy a good scanner and would appreciate any comments or
advice from members.
I need the following abilities in that scanner:
1 Can scan 35mm slides and film at 3000 ppi or better
2 Good at scanning difficult reflective materials, such as
watercolours, up to A4 size
3 Has some depth of field so it can scan shallow 3D objects
4 Has a good dynamic range
5 Costs <$1000
6 Works with MacOS 10.3 or better
7 Preferably has FireWire
I am considering a CanoScan 9950F
I look forward to what you have to say.
