I have three computers that all have airport cards in them:
15" TiPowerBook with Airport running 10.4
12" G4 iBook with Airport Extreme running 10.4
12" G3 iBook with Airport running 10.3
plus a Netgear base-station setup to be 11.b and 11.g compatible it
is also set up to advertise its presence (and for the purpose of this
no MAC address restrictions) but has WAP enabled. DHCP is enabled and
the range of addresses is more than sufficient for the number of
machines trying to connect to the network
both the G4 iBook and PowerBook can connect but the G3 iBook will not
even show the Netgear hub in it's available Airport networks list.
Manually typing in the Netgears name (yes -remembering that it's case
sensitive) and hex password comes up with "there was an error joining
NETGEAR"
however creating a peer to peer network between any of these three
computers has no problems either with password or without no mater
what computer creates the network.
I tested the card in the G3 iBook taking the AirPort card out and
putting it a G4 TiPowerBook running 10.3 and that had no problems
connecting.
cleared off all the listed "connect to preferred network" list from
the G3's Airports system panel
have checked Keychain on the G3 to see if it had cached an incorrect
password (given the length of the hex keys not all together unheard
of) but there is no entry for it.
signal strength, according to the other two laptops, is good (at
least 75%) and they are all in within a couple of meters of each
other and oriented for optimum reception from the base station.
any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.
