We recently signed our phone service over to iinet. Line rental and all
calls. Keep the same number and get a discount on our internet bill.
Our good neighbor introduced us to skype. Free between users anywhere
in the world. Sound quality seems fine. Hasn't cost me anything yet. I
highly recommend giving it a try before you sign up for a plan. It
might do what you are looking for. http://www.skype.com

I'm with iiNet for ISP but their VoIP offer is somewhat restrictive.
I'd need to register for iiPhone on a contract and there is no iiNet
DSLAM exchange here in Geraldton, so I would benefit from this program
only by getting VoIP access, although this would also upgrade my
internet download limit from 5Gb to 10 Gb (not that I need this at the
moment). I would need to get a new standard phone number with them,
and it would not be listed in the local phone book.
"engin" has no contract arrangement. It is 'pay by the month'. I
retain my current phone number. They offer a $100 rebate on the
VoiceBox machine needed to convert the phone to digital transmission.
VB1=$149; VB2=$229, both less $100.
"engin" can only provide 1Way access here in Geraldton but at $9.95 a
month, it may be a fair option. It's a bit like iiNet not having a
DSLAM here I suppose. 1 Way access means we dial out on VoIP but those
who call in do so on a normal phone plan. The VoIP technology caters
for this, allowing us to have a VoIP phone out and a conventional
phone in.
