Solved!!
I have been testing URLs from mail in Eudora. Eudora Help offers the
following:
To specify what Internet application to use when opening a particular
type of URL, take these steps:
1. Open the incoming message containing the URL, or preview the
message in the message preview pane, making sure the URL is visible
in the pane.
2. Hold down the Option key and double-click on the URL in the
message window or preview pane. A standard file dialog is displayed.
3. In the dialog, select the application you want to use for
that type of URL.
4. Click Open. The selected application is opened and goes to that URL.
From then on, when you select a URL of that type in a Eudora message,
your selected application is automatically used: it opens and acts on
the URL.
I did that and now all is well.
Thank you Rhonda for keeping me thinking about it.

This is real tricky.
Firefox says it is the default browser (Check now).
Safari says Firefox is the default browser.
However, Mozilla has no default browser button to do: "Preferences ->
Navigator -> Set Default Browser". Am I looking in the wrong spot?

Hi again Merv,
I meant to also include this for Mozilla Suite.

I have been running Mozilla 1.7.13 on my iMac under OS 10.2.8.
Mozilla can 'talk' to all my banks where other browsers can't.
However, three days ago I decided to try the more recent version
of Firefox, viz 2.0. Previous versions would not perform as
required but this version does.
I would now like to make Firefox 2.0 my default browser, and
clicked the appropriate square in preferences for this to happen.
Help for Mozilla said a button in Preferences-Navigator turns
on/off the default browser condition. I could not find such a
button anywhere in Mozilla's preferences. As a consequence, if I
double click on a web address in an email or such, Mozilla grabs
it.
I have trashed Mozilla's plist file, quit all applications and
restarted but no change. Running Repair Permissions gave no joy.
I don't wish to uninstall Mozilla just yet, so are there any
suggestions as to how I might work around this one?

Hi Merv,
I just downloaded the FireFox v 2.0 & going to Preferences> Main
& clicking the 'check now' under System Defaults ' and changing my
default browser to Firefox
..... it did.
If that's not working for you.
Another way to set our default Browser is:
1. Download Safari if you do not already have it.
2. In Safari, choose "Preferences" from the menu.
3. Click the "General" icon, and choose Firefox from the default
web browser pop-up menu.
If you don't see Firefox in the list, make sure it is in the
"Applications" folder.
Cheers,
Ronni
