Thank you Jude - that did fix it.
I spent ages going through Help looking for how to stop this from
happening without anything like a sensible answer coming up. It was
a tad frustrating.

Dear WAMUGGERS
I feel exceedingly stupid about this. I have been through both
Mail and System Preferences several times looking for where or how
I stop this from happening.
I will be very grateful to whoever can tell me how to stop it
happening.
