Hi Reg, If you go to your Apple menu and choose 'About This Mac', then click 'More Info...' then you will get into the System Profiler. Look for 'Power' under 'Hardware'. This will tell you about the battery and charger.
You might also need to reset your PMU (power management unit). This unit is involved in switching power and power sources, so might be the source of your issue? Maybe the PMU memory got corrupted when the PRAM battery went flat?
