Ronnie,
There are two reasons I think your WOTY award is well deserved.
Firstly, you know *so* much and freely share that knowledge.
Secondly, your approach to the user group embodies the spirit of
helping. I'm not sure why some people feel the need to get involved
in voluntary online groups/forums, and spend their time telling others
(in various ways) that they should read manuals more / search more
rather than asking a question. Pointless at best, unfriendly/rude at
worst (like your RTFM friend). Others - like you - just help when
and if they choose to. Simple, friendly and helpful. Forums work so
well when there are people like you involved.
Hi WAMUG
If I may, I'd like to nominate Shay Telfer for an honourable mention.
For me, his help and suggestions, often for others, have been very
informative and even inspiring.
I have followed some of his information and leads over the last six
years and it has led me to discover a great deal of useful knowledge.
I should however qualify this nomination, as I have a miniature axe to
grind ;-)
Shay posted information about a job vacancy on WAMUG that I was lucky
enough to secure.
This position has recently been slightly expanded so I am feeling quite
grateful at the moment :-)
The entirety of WAMUG deserves a pat on the back if you ask me.
I'm basing that on comparisons to other forums and online communities.
This is a mature (not old! You are too hard on yourself Mac!),
professional and generous group of individuals embodying all the things
I love about Australia, Western Australia and computing.
Regards
Paul Kitchener
